So I have my new computer, and I’m breaking it in with a few indie games. First one on the list is called A.N.O.N.Y.M.U.S. created by MaXoMeR and available on Jolt. This game is a basic point and click game. Honestly just the name of the game made me a bit nervous downloading it, afterall let’s not anger the internet gods right? Nevertheless my curiosity was peaked by the basic concept of playing as an Anonymus hacker. And yes the spelling is wrong, I sort of think they did that on purpose, maybe they fear the internet gods too, heh.
So right off the bat the game opens up presenting like a glitchy computer screen. Then you’re presented with a sort of cinematic explaining some backstory of the game. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I’m trying not to give away too much. Few things that presented problems for me before really getting to gameplay.
Esc closes the game without any popup window or dialog whatsoever confirming this choice to close it.
No real explanation of controls or what you’re supposed to be doing in game, instead it just sort of throws you into it.
So I load up the game, I start a new file and whoosh, off to the hacker world. But it’s just kinda me, in a room, with a computer, and some dude talking at me. Played through the monitor prompts and it was fun. I noticed the arrows on the side of the screen and decided to look around my environment, at first I was disappointed I couldn’t see behind me or interact with anything but the monitor, but that quickly changed. See, this game is about jump scares, and it succeeded. However I think it loses it’s affect after playing for a bit. Best way to play? Be distracted. I got scared the most while I was being bugged by my little cousins, they liked it.
So some of the writing is misspelled or mixed English, just a pet peeve of mine but I understand it happens. I would like to get more of a story but I hope they are still developing it. I personally found it a fun, yet simple game. Definitely worth a try.
I give it ★★★☆☆
Short, simple, fun
